a place of no stories
Dirs. Jo Barker and Holly Black.
Josh went through three near death experiences when he almost burnt to death in a boat fire. Now he and his partner April try to make sense of the world again through this altered perspective on choosing life after death, by meeting with others who have had near death experiences in a therapeutic setting.
Outline:
Five years ago a gas cooker caught fire on April’s houseboat and exploded in Josh’s face causing him to go through three near death experiences (NDE’s) due to severe burning. Each journey Josh describes as taking him to a world he calls “a place of no stories” where he met with death, then choose to return to life.
Since then he has been faced with how to integrate experiencing a place of total compassion and expansiveness, with his current reality. Contemplating the struggles of recovery and the complexities of our delicate relationship with life and death, Josh and April try to live according this new perspective but with every passing year Josh feels the serenity slip further away and a fear of death return.
Now, from the ashes of pain we witness extraordinary growth and unexpected beauty as they rebuild their lives and connect with others who have experience of NDE’s through a therapeutic group retreat on their land, finding balance togther amongst the promise of life and the certainty of death.
