SHOWREEL 2024 | COMING SOON

At Black Bark Films we are a female led company that evokes authentic and meaningful conversation, by working collaboratively with our clients. Topics range from food and farming activism, community engagement, youth empowerment, gender politics and providing a platform for marginalised voices. Get in touch to discuss any projects you might have in mind. We have a range of skills including (but not limited to);

  • Working with vulnerable groups and young people

  • Facilitating workshops around filmmaking

  • Participatory filmmaking

  • Collaborating with performance artists in theatre settings

  • Specialising in food and farming systems, social justice and community based projects.

From January 2021 we have both been facilitators and lead mentors for the BFI Film Academy Bristol delivering a NCFE accreditation with the Watershed, Bristol. We also mentor young filmmakers through Screenology and the BFI Film Academy SouthWest. Holly has also had an Associate Lecturer role on the Filmmaking BA at the University of the West of England for their module in Short Form.

At Black Bark Films we utilise a trauma informed approach to our work. We have completed the Gold Certificate of Achievement with Thrive London and Nicola Lester demonstrating a commitment to a trauma informed practice.

We have undertaken the Screen Skills online training for Coronavirus basic awareness on production. More on our precautions for filmmaking during Covid-19. If you would like us to use extra precaution regarding Coronavirus or other needs, please do get in touch.

jo.jpg

jo barker

Jo has known she would be a filmmaker since directing her first short film aged 17, going on to study a BA in Film and Media in Bristol. Then followed years of honing and shaping her lens as a film editor through subsequent years in the Natural History Unit of the BBC and various indies across the South West.

Jo deeply values the work she does at Black Bark Films, unravelling the complexity of human interaction and exploring it through her passion for editing. Black Bark’s work allows her a sense of purpose with the allyship and solidarity that is inherent to all their films, through elevating the voices of communities and individuals that often go unheard. Jo uses she/her pronouns.
