MAYK CONFLUENCE | series of ARTIST FILMs

Curated and produced by MAYK and commissioned by Ginkgo Projects, Confluence 2026 commissioned artists Dhaqan Collective, Esther May Campbell, Howl Yuan, Ramelle Williams & Fenton Fleming, and Iman Sultan-West to uncover fresh perspectives on the unseen and unheard in our changing city. Evolving from 2024’s artists Asmaa Jama, Verity Standen, Travis Alabanza, and Ryan Convery-Moroney.


PROPER TIME | ARTIST R'N'D FILM

Commission by Bristol based arts charity MAYK, working with Raquel Meseguer Zafe who identifies as dis-abled. Raquel in collaboration with curator and writer Anna Starkey and musician and composer Jamie McCarthy – both of whom currently or in the past have experienced chronic illness – Proper Time is part science lecture, live music gig, movement and theatre. Proper Time will consider what can be made when you don’t have to push through pain and fatigue to make it.


FILWOOD ON BROADWAY | ARTIST FILM

On 9th August 2025 Filwood on Broadway took over the street next to the old cinema building site to tell the story of Filwood Broadway through the ages with the help of our trusty time machine the TimeLine 3000, which looks a lot like a piece of rope. A performance created by community members working in collaboration with resident artists Linzy Na Nakorn and Rachael Clerke as part of the Filwood in Motion residency.


PARAORCHESTRA PLAY | PROMO

Commission by Bristol based orchestra Paraorchestra, a collective of disabled and non-disabled musicians that pushes the boundaries of music-making to create art with passion and purpose. Play with Paraorchestra is a two day workshop with a small group of young D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent musicians, working alongside professional musicians and composers from the Paraorchestra ensemble.


RORY PIlgrim | DOC SHORT

Commission by the Tate. Nominated for the 2023 Turner Prize, artist and composer Rory Pilgrim meets with the eight members of Green Shoes Arts to explore the process of connection in different ways. From digital to embodied, verbal to musical, Rory's practice is underpinned by a concern as to how we might collectively contribute to social change.


FILWOOD COMMUNITY JUNKET | ARTIST FILM

Taking inspiration from a rich history of local media in Knowle West - Bristol, artists Rachael Clerke and Linzy Na Nakorn engaged local children in after school writing, game-making and collage sessions to create a fun, one issue only, community newspaper The Filwood Times.

NOW I AM A BOAT | ARTIST FILM | clip

14 children from year six at Shirehampton Primary School spent a week working with artist Rachael Clerke & Bristol Photo Festival, thinking and playing around the subjects of shipping and globalisation. They visited the nearby Port of Bristol at Avonmouth & Portbury, created ship and port alter-egos, and invented a global shipping game where they transported grain, cars, crockery and more around the world (gym hall).

Mental health theatre company Many Minds and their recent interactive performance inspired by the These Mad Hybrids exhibition at the RWA, alongside artists Buoys Buoys Buoys and exhibition curator Olivia Bax.

Working with Headline Publishers and Bristol author Moses McKenzie, creating a promo for his 2nd novel "Fast by the Horns" centred around the Rastafari community on the cusp of 1980's St. Paul's uprising.


knowing by heart | ARTIST FILM | clip

Collaboration between movement artist Kit Hall and the women of Avonmouth Community Centre. Weaving living movement portraits to remember each of the women’s individual expressions and repeated movements during life and work in Avonmouth, as a celebration of their lives. The work is commissioned by IC Visual Lab in collaboration with Bristol Photo Festival. Official Selection for Aesthetica Film Festival 2025.


DANCING OTHERWISE | DOCUMENTATION

Promo showing practical explorations that formed part of the Dancing Otherwise: Exploring Pluriversal Practices project. A two day event for individuals and groups to experiment with movement and improvised dance.

With layers of autobiography, lip sync, creative captioning, video and aerial performance in Laura’s critical and cheeky signature style

Short doc on the collaboration between Common Wealth Theatre company and musician Kid Carpet. Documenting the co-creation of a performance piece, centring around the idea of children experiencing that it’s ok to try something new and fail.

A deep dive into chronic anxiety through a personal feminist lens, via slasher flicks, bloody knickers & suicidal insects. A BSL integrated show for public space performed by Olga Kaleta & Sherrie Eugene-Hart, Period Drama is a surreal, episodic and site responsive performance exploring mental health, identity & recovery through autobiographical storytelling, circus & physical theatre.

Short clip from a Bristol City Council commission, for the M-Shed’s exhibition Think Global: Act Bristol. Exploring big environmental questions affecting people in Avonmouth and presenting perspectives from a wide range of local voices.

Artist and performer Dr. Laura Murphy charts a cosmic voyage through performance, probing into space and outer space, and taking up space - on your screens and in your lives. A Spectacle of Herself is a performance film emerging from research into a new live work, interrogating themes around virtuosity, autobiography, identity, and the spectacularized body.


Hamilton House: Owning Our Future | DOC SHORT

Working with the Save Hamilton House Campaign, we put together this film about community ownership and the opportunities that could arise out of the sale of iconic Hamilton House in Bristol's Stokes Croft.

Dry Season is a spoken word theatre performance exploring menopause and identity by artist and Bristol Poet Laureate 2022-24 Kat Lyons. Taking the audience on an autobiographical journey through a chaotic year of hormones, mental health issues and NHS visits whilst being honest and darkly humorous, Kat uses spoken word theatre to explore societal expectations of age and gender, our need for connection, and how we cope with change.


THE RED SEA TRAVEL AGENCY| PROMO

A co-creation between Black Bark Films and No More Taboo, the Red Sea Travel Agency is the first gender inclusive, dedicated menstruation venue to be held at a Shambala Music Festival. Themed as a travel agency we take people on a "weekend tour of the monthlies".
